DiCaprio plays Billy Costigan, an undercover policeman who needs to get inside a criminal group led by the tough Frank Costello, played by Nicholson. At the same time, Colin Sullivan, played by Damon, is a traitor in the police who informs Costello about their plans. As both men try to find out who the other is, the tension builds, leading to a thrilling ending with surprising turns.
