The story is set inside Riley’s mind, where five emotions—Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust—help guide her. Joy, voiced by Amy Poehler, wants to keep Riley cheerful and often overlooks Sadness, voiced by Phyllis Smith. When Joy and Sadness accidentally get lost in Riley’s mind, they go on an adventure to find their way back to Headquarters.
As they travel through different parts of Riley’s mind, like Long-Term Memory and Imagination Land, they learn that all feelings, especially sadness, are important. The film shows how emotions work together and affect our actions, highlighting that it’s normal to experience a range of feelings.
